In 2016 we decided to head to Indianapolis and compete in DCI SoundSport. We
replaced our old music with a repertoire based on a Mardi Gras theme and, to
enhance the visual aspect, we experimented with Mummers' costumes instead of our
green uniforms. That experiment was highly successful and we returned home
with a Gold Medal. In 2017 we expanded our "Party Gras" show and
spent two weeks on an extremely successful tour South Korea. In 2018 we are
adding a calypso number and plan on returning to Indianapolis. Our new style is definitely not traditional Drum
Corps but it is fun! And the audience loves the change! We're excited about this experiment and we hope you,
too, will enjoy
our show. Check us out. Better yet, Come and Join us!
Why join? We’re having
more fun than we've ever had and it's even more fun to
share with friends. We travel a little,
hang out with old friends, make new ones and get to entertain others
which leaves both them and us happy. Of course, we do have to rehearse; however, at
two rehearsals a month our schedule is lighter than other Alumni Corps.
Perhaps you're concerned about learning to play all over again? I'd
be lying if I said that it would not require some effort; however, this is a hobby
and we do it for
fun. The skill level of our members varies and, while none of us are
stars, we work together to create a great show. We're looking for people who
share our enthusiasm and are willing to make a commitment to the corps
while striving to improve. Of course, if you don't want to play but
are interested in what we do there is always room for support staff
and colour guard members.
We are looking for video footage of Opti Corps,
the Toronto Optimists and the Seneca Optimists. This is a search for memories,
not great technique. If you have video footage that you would like to donate
to the corps, please contact
Bob Carell (toronto_optimist at rogers.com).
If you want to see the videos that we already
have, please visit our Video page.
