Passing of Marlene Lister on May 8, 2020

Glenda and Doug Roblin advised that Glenda's Mom, Marlene Lister, passed away the morning of May 8, 2020 at the age of 81. Many of the former members of both the Optimists Lancers and Cadet Lancers will remember her as she often chaperoned on parades and tours with both corps in the 1970s.

She will be placed with Glenda's Dad at a private family graveside service on Tuesday, May 12th in Barrie.

Condolences may be forwarded through Adams Funeral Home here.

Impact of the Pandemic - COVID-19

Like a plot in a movie or good novel, it seems no one is able to escape the impact of the pandemic virus, COVID-19. Due to the recent government and institutional responses, and overall current global situation, the Optimists Alumni Corps has postponed their California Dreamin' tour to 2021. In addition, the City of Toronto has cancelled the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Our group wishes every one safety and health during these unprecedented times.

Perform with The Optimists Alumni Show Band!

In 2016 we decided to head to Indianapolis and compete in DCI SoundSport. We replaced our old music with a repertoire based on a Mardi Gras theme and, to enhance the visual aspect, we experimented with Mummers' costumes instead of our green uniforms. That experiment was highly successful and we returned home with a Gold Medal. In 2017 we expanded our "Party Gras" show and spent two weeks on an extremely successful tour of South Korea. For the 2018 season we expanded our repertoire to include a calypso number and a couple of songs by Queen. In August of 2018 we returned to Indianapolis and came home with another Gold Medal! In 2019 the corps, once again, returned to Jeju, South Korea, for a very successful tour. Our plans for 2020 include a June trip to California.

Our new style is definitely not traditional Drum Corps but it is fun! More importantly, the audience loves the changes! We're excited about this new direction and we hope that you, too, will enjoy our show.  Check us out. Better yet, Come and Join us!

Why join? We’re having more fun than we've ever had and it's even more fun to share with friends. We travel a little, hang out with old friends, make new ones and we get to entertain others which leaves both them and us happy. Of course, we do have to rehearse; however, at two rehearsals a month our schedule is lighter than other Alumni Corps. Perhaps you're concerned about learning to play all over again? I'd be lying if I said that it would not require some effort; however, this is a hobby and we do it for fun. The skill level of our members varies and, while none of us are stars, we work together to create a great show. We're looking for people who share our enthusiasm and are willing to make a commitment to the corps while striving to improve. Of course, if you don't want to play but are interested in what we do there is always room for support staff and colour guard members.

Everyone is welcome at our rehearsals. Even if you’re not interested in joining, feel free to drop in for a look and a listen. We love to have an audience. Who knows, you might just decide that you'd enjoy doing this. Interested? To learn more please Click Here.

Historical Video Footage

We are looking for video footage of Opti Corps, the Toronto Optimists and the Seneca Optimists. This is a search for memories, not great technique. If you have video footage that you would like to donate to the corps, please contact  Bob Carell (toronto_optimist at
